Here's a shot from my last trip to New Orleans - Happy Fat Tuesday! I'm definitely enjoying some King Cake as I speak, YUM!
Back from NOLA! It was such a great trip. It was H-O-T though (it's so hard to pick fun outfits when it feels like it's 150 degrees from walking outside all day). As planned, I ate beignets everyday and they were so good. It was the first place we stopped right after dropping off our bags at the hotel. It's a miracle I didn't put on at least 5 pounds when I was there!
It turned out that the Creole Tomato Festival was going on the weekend we happened to be there. Apparently it is one of the least advertised festivals so it ends up being a locals thing, which is awesome for us because there aren't loads of tourists jam packed there. Oh man those tomatoes ... they were so juicy. A couple we met at Coquette told us to bring a box home, and I'm so glad they did. I've eaten them for every meal since we got back starting with lunch yesterday. Oh, and I'm having some again for dinner tonight.
It's so funny how small of a town New Orleans (and really, the world) can be. There was this couple we randomly saw every single day we were there, and on our second day when we ate at August, they sat at the table right NEXT to us. How funny is that? And the couple we met at Coquette (the tomato couple) ran into five different people they knew at the restaurant by chance. I love that!
Plans for tonight: Drinking lots of wine & crashing real early.
Going on a mini vacation to NOLA tomorrow, can’t wait! Our plane leaves super early in the morning, ergo my plans for tonight. I absolutely love traveling and even the packing! oh, the packing ... the narrowing down … the condensing my luggage to make it fit so it won’t bust open mid-flight. I’ll usually start thinking about what I want to wear a week in advance (the bigger the trip, the more pre-planning - take Paris for example: I thought about outfits a month in advance, which is you know, completely normal). But really, I can’t get enough of traveling. I haven’t even left for NOLA yet and have already started planning my next two trips.
I have my sketchbook, pencils, camera, and Southwest drink tickets (should I even be drinking that early in the morning?) all packed up and ready to go. I just love seeing new things and being inspired by and in awe of different cultures. Hopefully I can get some good quality sketching time in and you’ll see it pop up on one of my Fall/Winter shop items!
On the list of eats are CafĂ© du Monde Beignets, Cochon, August, po’ boys...oh and did I mention BEIGNETS?? Every day for breakfast if we’re lucky enough. I'm also looking forward to the Garden District, French Flea Market, Jackson Square, and the French Quarter!
I will be seeing you all again very soon:
