No Clothes Post

Sam made an awesome five course meal for his parents and me this weekend. It's fun going to the farmer's market in the morning and seeing him use it in our food later on that day. That's the way food should be done!

Btw- shipment of blank tees come in tomorrow, so expect a rollout of shopchristinasun items sometime soon!

Roast Branzino soft tofu, nori flakes, miso broth and foam
Soft Cooked Egg whitefish caviar, onion soubise, potato chips, sorrel and herbs
Roast Chicken Thigh daikon, carrots, soy chicken jus, purple basil and sesame oil
Almond Panna Cotta cherry compote, candied almonds
Peanut Butter Nutella Candy

Check out his other creations here!

... and this is why I'll never go hungry (or lose weight).

A Farmer's Market Saturday

So I woke up this morning 8:17am after a fun, late night out with friends and thought 'omg, eggggggs!' and shot straight out of bed. Every time Sam and I go to the farmer's market, we always, always miss out on the best eggs. We say we will come earlier next time, and naturally we never do. Today: successful!

I also picked up some delicious figs (which I'm snacking on as I blog) and a great chocolate croissant from Angela's Oven. The day I make a chocolate croissant like Angela's, I will ... well I have no idea what I'd do.

The early bird catches the eggs.

Missing Cinque Terre

Continuing with that mention of wanting to move to Europe, here are some snapshots of our trip to Cinque Terre, Italy back in April for my birthday! So, confession ... I cried really hard the day before we flew out from Paris to Cinque Terre. The thing with those European budget airlines like Easy Jet or Ryan Air is that you have to get there really early since the check in line is always unpredictable and on top of that, they will absolutely not let you to your gate if you pass a certain time. Anyway, long story short - we took the train to the wrong airport, missed our flight, I thought it was the end of the world, paid some money and went the next day instead.

The thing about these trips, is that even though you're dead tired from the jet lag, wearing really uncomfortable walking shoes, and still trying to figure out why the mean lady at the bakery just cheated you out of $15 because you didn't know the difference between a quiche and a tart ... in the end, it's all so worth it.

These snapshots were taken right after arriving in Cinque Terre. Give me some of that great pistachio gelato, and what? I was upset yesterday? The good always seems to outweigh the bad.

Why don't we make pizza here like they do there?
Side note: I'm learning to be a baker - more on that later.

Sunday Stroll

I had a great weekend. It started with surprise flowers ... when is that ever a bad thing?

Since I have my Sundays free now (Until recently, I worked at J.Crew for the past year on the weekends), I'm able to do awesome stuff like going to the Arboretum & Nature Center! It was my first time and I don't know why it took me so long to finally go. It was so nice. Even though it was a little under 100 degrees today, it was bearable because of all these overcast trees that shade the pathways. You kind of forget you're in a big city there, I like that so much.

Today is a a great day because it's Father's Day! One of my fondest memories of my dad is when he used to make me bunny shaped pancakes on Sunday mornings and also spelled out my name. That's a nine letter pancake c-h-r-i-s-t-i-n-a. Also I used to love how he would massage my feet until I fell asleep. He thinks of everything and is so supportive and loving. I have the best dad in the entire world, I hope he is reading this.

Anyway, then we grabbed some Smashburger after (also another first ... guess today is full of first's), which was the best decision made today, although I will have to make up for it the entire week. Oh yeah and my New Orleans flea market horse pin got some action today. Look at its fire flames mane and green eye.

Sundays make me nervous because I'm not ready to welcome Monday.
Oh also, lately I've been wanting to move to Paris ... no big deal.

NOLA

Back from NOLA! It was such a great trip. It was H-O-T though (it's so hard to pick fun outfits when it feels like it's 150 degrees from walking outside all day). As planned, I ate beignets everyday and they were so good. It was the first place we stopped right after dropping off our bags at the hotel. It's a miracle I didn't put on at least 5 pounds when I was there!

It turned out that the Creole Tomato Festival was going on the weekend we happened to be there. Apparently it is one of the least advertised festivals so it ends up being a locals thing, which is awesome for us because there aren't loads of tourists jam packed there. Oh man those tomatoes ... they were so juicy. A couple we met at Coquette told us to bring a box home, and I'm so glad they did. I've eaten them for every meal since we got back starting with lunch yesterday. Oh, and I'm having some again for dinner tonight.

It's so funny how small of a town New Orleans (and really, the world) can be. There was this couple we randomly saw every single day we were there, and on our second day when we ate at August, they sat at the table right NEXT to us. How funny is that? And the couple we met at Coquette (the tomato couple) ran into five different people they knew at the restaurant by chance. I love that!

So great to have a nylon wristband when it's hot out there.

Picked up this awesome horse pin from the French (flea) Market.

Mid-year's resolution: More mini vacations.
